Collection guidelines workplan

 

The workplan for developing collection guidelines for the Pennsylvania Digital Library Project will be undertaken as follows:

 

Quarter 1

Invite and convene expert group for initial meeting to review the purpose and rationale for development of the guidelines; develop a work plan and online means for communication among group members; committee members work online to consider needs of various user groups; develop list of criteria for inclusion in the collection; create draft lists of topics, specific collections, and classes of materials that should be digitized.

Due: October 31, 2007

 

Phase 2 Hold second meeting to consider draft list of topics, specific collections, and classes of materials that should be digitized; review draft list for alignment with needs of various user groups; recommend further work and identify other experts who should be consulted.

Due: January 31, 2008

Phase 3 Complete and approve draft guidelines during third meeting; publish draft guidelines for public review to a website and send to consortia and associations for posting to mailing and discussion lists; present at consortial and association meetings as calendars allow.

Due: March 31, 2008

Phase 4

Discuss comments received during the review period, revise draft to produce a working document, and publish guidelines both online and in print. Ensure that the guidelines document cites and connects to the technical and metadata standards, digital collections preservation, administrative, and legal (ownership, copyright, etc) advice and structures developed by the Pennsylvania Advisory Committee on Collaborative Digitization and its working groups. In addition to online dissemination, distribute a printed document to all members of PALCI, PALINET, PACSCL, and PHMC; the main office or branch of school or public library systems in Access Pennsylvania; the District Library Centers; the digital projects of other states; and relevant funders as well as local, state, and federal government agencies. A marketing brochure will be distributed.
